Copper Mountain, CO – The U.S. Freestyle Moguls selection event is currently being hosted at the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain in Colorado through next week.
Selection events are an opportunity for athletes to qualify for FIS Freestyle World Cup and NorAm starts for the 2013 season, two men and two women’s spots are up for grabs. This is the first traditional freestyle event at Copper Mountain since 1978 and the first non-alpine event held on the U.S. Ski Team Copper Speed Center.
“Copper is a great partner of the U.S. Ski Team and we are looking forward to bringing Freestyle into the loop and taking advantage of the incredible speed center venue. Moguls selections are one of the most important events of the season where athletes can qualify for 2013 FIS World Cup and NorAm starts,” explained Todd Schirman, Freestyle Program Director with the U.S. Ski Team. “With limited snow this December, the team is thankful to find a good site. We are looking forward to working with Copper and appreciate their dedication to our continued success.”
The moguls course has been built on Rosie’s Run, the steep finish pitch at the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center. Among the athletes competing are Ali Kariotis (Tiburon, Calif.), Shane Cordeau (Sun Valley, Idaho), Ryan Dyer (Steamboat, Colo.), Cody Tempel (Missoula, Mont.), Dylan Walczyk (Breckenridge, Colo.) and Bryan Zemba (Killington, Vt.).
The event also adds another freestyle competition venue in the U.S. and furthers Copper Mountain’s commitment to providing world class training and competition venues for American athletes as they prepare for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
“We are excited to be adding the U.S. Freestyle Moguls selections to Copper Mountain. We have had an incredible competition line-up this season in on the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center, Copper’s world-class speed training venue, in our 22-foot Main Vein Superpipe and now the newest addition, a World Cup caliber Mogul competition,” said Gary Rodgers, President and General Manager of Copper Mountain Resort. “Guests will have the opportunity to see future Olympians in multiple disciplines throughout Copper Mountain events.”
