New Ski Clinics Added in Whistler Backcountry

Whistler (BC), Canada – The biggest winter playground in North America just got bigger. Way bigger, as in 25,000 acres bigger. Extremely Canadian, founders of Whistler’s renowned Steep Skiing Clinics, are taking their program into Whistler Blackcomb’s vast lift-accessed backcountry for the 2012-13 season.

The first program of its kind in Whistler, Extremely Canadian’s new Backcountry Adventures brings ski coaching into the backcountry. The program takes the recipe from the Extremely Canadian Steep Skiing Clinics available on Whistler Blackcomb and adds a dose of backcountry techniques, awareness and safety. Guests should prepare for tired legs and a whole new way of looking at the mountains.

Extremely Canadian’s new One Day Backcountry Adventures program will open up boundaries for adventurous intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders like never before. Professional  guides certified by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) will decide what terrain to access day-to-day based on the conditions and will share their decision-making process along the way. Guests will gain techniques and tactics to hone their skiing, boost avalanche safety knowledge, and heighten awareness in big mountain terrain. Whether it’s a guest’s first day in the backcountry or they are a seasoned pro looking to step it up, all guests will end the day with memorable descents, better decision-making skills, and a thirst for more, says ACMG President and senior guide/examiner, Keith Reid.

“The backcountry terrain and snow conditions within spitting distance of Whistler Blackcomb are world-class – I can’t wait to share it with more skiers and riders,” says Reid. “I’m all about the skiing, and it’s pretty clear that is Extremely Canadian’s mantra, too. The great aspect of this new program will be sharing my experience and decision-making process with the clients as we go. They’ll get the shredding they came for, plus valuable skills to continue improving on future adventures.”

Extremely Canadian Backcountry Adventures will be based out of Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, running daily through April 28, 2013, subject to conditions, weather, and enrollment numbers. For $199 CAD plus tax, guests will get a full-day Whistler backcountry experience. Private sessions are also available for individuals or groups, offering one-on-one coaching, a custom pace, and a daily objective geared entirely to the group’s goals. Private rates range from $549 to $659 CAD plus tax, depending on season.
