Teller Takes Second World Cup Victory

Megeve, France – After battling weather delays and multiple schedule changes John Teller, of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., took the top spot at the Audi FIS Freestyle Ski Cross World Cup in Megeve, France on Wednesday.

Teller, an X Games champion, won his first World Cup nearly two years ago to the day in St. Johann, Austria. Finland’s Jouni Pellinen finished second and Switzerland’s Armin Niederer crossed the line in third. Teller’s teammate Joe Swensson, of Niantic, Conn., finished in seventh for USA Ski Cross.

“I seriously was just having a blast skiing the course,” said Teller, who added, “I am stoked for my teammate Joe [Swensson] as well. I think this is the best U.S. finish ever. I knew I was skiing this course faster than everyone so it is good to get back on the top step. Mister momentum is in my pocket now!”

Germany’s Anna Woerner took the win for the women. Reigning ski cross world champion Kelsey Serwa, from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, completed a stunning double pass in the final and claim silver and French veteran Ophelie David was third.

“The final was really exciting,” said Serwa. “All the girls were pretty strong out of the start and it was pretty even. I was kind of on the inside just behind the French girls and I did a speed check to avoid being pinched. In front of me they were going forward and back, making passes . . . but heading down to the bottom I knew there was an opportunity to pass. I went past one girl and cut inside for second.”

Ski cross athletes now head to Grasgehren, Germany for the next World Cup stop Feb. 1-3. Athletes will be stateside for the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Canyons Resort Feb. 25 – Mar. 2.
