Brad Muster, of Freeling, South Australia, was in Whistler with his girlfriend on the last day of their five-day vacation on Thursday. They were snowboarding in an area of the resort known as the Blue Cliffs on Whistler Mountain when they realized that the terrain was too steep for their abilities. They took off their snowboards and attempted to walk down the mountain when Muster slipped, sliding into a tree, according to the Whistler detachment of the Royal Canadian Mountain Police.

Muster was airlifted to Whistler Health Care Centre before being transferred to Vancouver General Hospital, where he died of a severe head injury.

Muster’s death was the second thus far this season on the slopes of Whistler Blackcomb. On Jan. 7, 43-year-old skier Sean Miller Oklahoma fell 70 feet from a cliff area known as Tiger’s Terrace above Franz’s Meadows and was killed.
