Nancy Egleston, 48, whose home town was not immediately available, was stopped on the intermediate Spar Gulch trail near the bottom of an unspecified expert run on Aspen Mountain at around 3:45 p.m. on Monday when she was struck by another unidentified skier.

Ski patrollers responding to the scene found Egleston unconscious and unresponsive. Advanced life-saving procedures proved unsuccessful, according to an Aspen Skiing Company statement, and Egleston was pronounced dead a short time later at Aspen Valley Hospital.

The Pitkin County Coroner’s report indicates that Egleston died of a traumatic brain injury. Both skiers involved were wearing helmets.

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office has not indicated that it intends to pursue any charges against the other skier.
