Cecil Freeman, of Berlin Vt., and Matthew Smith, of East Montpelier, Vt., were found by searchers around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday evening in a large swath of wilderness between the ski area and Waterbury Reservoir to its east. The two had contacted Smith’s mother via cell phone to let her know they went off  trail, and ski patrollers first searched the area between Vista and Wilderness Peaks without success as they were first believed to be in that area.

Freeman and Smith were both reported to be in good health following their ordeal.
