Police declined to identify by name the 35-year-old man who they believe sent an anonymous threatening email to Maze, 29, on the eve of a World Cup super G in which she placed fourth. The threat prompted officials to place Maze under police protection.

German authorities are continuing their criminal investigation.

Maze is one of just six women who have won in all five World Cup alpine ski racing events and one of three women who have won in all five disciplines in a single season.
