The 23-year-old woman was reported missing by friends at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, but her body was not located until Thursday morning.

“Search and rescue was mobilized as part of our missing skier protocol,” Sgt. Rob Knapton of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a prepared statement. “However, they were unable to commence a search until 7 a.m. on March 28 (Thursday).

She was found at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Fitzsimmons Creek, which separates Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, between Whistler Sliding Centre, home to the luge and bobsled competitions at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and a small hydroelectric power plant.

RCMP indicate that the victim, whose name has not yet been released, appeared to have snowboarded alone to Fitzsimmons Creek and attempted to hike out of the area.
