The privately owned resort in the Pocono Mountains west of Stroudsburg is seeking tax breaks from local, county and school district officials to help finance the development. The requested tax relief has already been approved by all but Pocono Township, which will meet next month to consider the request. The project is expected to add nearly 1,000 full- and part-time jobs in a region where the unemployment rate hovers around nine percent. Camelback officials also assert that once built, the new facilities will also generate ancillary tax revenue estimated at $1 million annually in hotel taxes.

The 800 vertical-foot ski resort already operates its outdoor Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark in summer along with a number of other warm-weather attractions. While numerous area hotels offer guests overnight accommodations througout the year, none are currently owned by the resort.
