Portillo, Chile – Schussing down the slopes in summer is not the only reason to head to Ski Portillo this year. For two weeks in late August and early September, the ski resort high in the Chilean Andes invites guests to enjoy great wine and fast women as the U.S. Women’s Ski Team heads south to train on the snow-covered mountains of Portillo right on the heels of Wine Festival Week.
From Aug. 24-31, Wine Festival Week, based on the success of Portillo’s original Wine Week, offers guests the opportunity to learn about the world of Chilean wine while enjoying some of the best wine the country has to offer. Each afternoon guests will be able to wind down while sampling and learning about the various types of Chilean wine in a discussion with the winemakers. Like Wine Week, Wine Festival week’s activities are offered at no additional cost.
Chilean wineries confirmed for Wine Festival Week include: Von Siebenthal Vineyards in the Valle de Aconcagua; Tabali Vineyards in northern Chile; the organic and biodynamic wines of Matetic Vineyards; the French-style wines of Casa Silva; the estate-grown grapes of Cousiño Macul; the world-class wines of Max Errazuriz; and the award-winning wines of Emiliana Vineyards.
Then stay at Portillo as the U.S. Women’s Ski Team returns to the slopes to begin their training for the Northern Hemisphere ski season. Watch some of the fastest women in the ski world training for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games while still enjoying the all-inclusive benefits of a weeklong stay at Ski Portillo.
All ski weeks include accommodations, four meals daily in the Hotel Portillo dining room (or at the cafeteria for Inca Lodge guests), lift tickets for up to eight days skiing, scheduled transfers from Santiago International Airport, and access to all resort amenities including the oversized hot tubs overlooking the Lake of the Incas, heated outdoor pool, fitness center and daily yoga and stretching classes.
Located approximately two hours from Santiago and accessible via direct flights from numerous North American cities, Ski Portillo is surrounded by 19,000-foot Andean peaks. Guests are serviced by a one-to-one guest-to-employee ratio at the resort that accommodates a maximum of 450 guests a week.
Per person prices for the 2013 season begin at US$1,950 at Hotel Portillo (based on double occupancy), US$1,300 (based on quad occupancy) at the Octagon Lodge, or US$950 at the Inca Lodge. For reservations call toll free (800) 829-5325, or email Reservas@SkiPortillo.com.
