Sun Peaks (BC), Canada – Thousands flocked to Sun Peaks at the end of August to listen to Colin James and other regional artists in the final concert of the B.C. ski resort’s 2013 Summer Concert Series. They were among the many guests who helped to set a second consecutive record-breaking summer at the resort community.
Resort occupancy numbers from June to September are currently pacing seven percent above last year, setting a new record for this period. August numbers were 15 percent ahead of last year and finished strong over the long holiday weekend.
“We’ve seen an increase in visitors in particular from the Okanagan and Lower Mainland,” says Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks. “Many first time visitors are drawn by specific events such as our free concerts, kids’ entertainment, or bike or running races. Others are here for a get-away vacation and attracted by the many outdoor activities and village ambiance.”
September features many new events at Sun Peaks, including this past weekend’s North Face Dirty Feet Mountain Run & Ultra, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s Women Only Weekend, the Run to the Sun Car Gathering (September 20 to 22) and Spartan Beast and Sprint Obstacle Races (September 28 & 29). Activities such as golfing, stand up paddleboarding, canoeing, and geocaching continue through the month.
