The ski and snowboard season in the Midwestern U.S. will get underway today as Wild Mountain opens for the season at 3 p.m. The Minnesota resort — often the first to open in the region each fall — will open a rope tow and a terrain park, Front Stage, for those anxious to make their first turns and tricks of the season.

“It is an exciting time of year.  There is something magical about snowmaking in October and a strip of white amongst the beautiful fall colors of the St Croix River Valley,” said Wild Mountain vice president Amy Frischmon.

The rope tow will continue to spin until 8 p.m. this evening. Lift ticket prices are reduced to $15.

Wild Mountain’s season debut now makes four U.S. states in which skiing and riding has been offered thus far this winter. After Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass in Washington opened for a single-day preview, Timberline on Oregon’s Mount Hood came online with its Palmer Snowfield. Shortly thereafter both Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area opened daily operations in Colorado, followed by Wolf Creek this past weekend.
