TTR Announces World Snowboard Tour Calendar for 2013-14

Scuol, Switzerland – With more than 250 contests rated from 1 to 6 Stars, in three disciplines (Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Big Air) held all over the world, the World Snowboard Tour (WST) is living up to its name.  The TTR World Snowboard Tour on Tuesday announced the details of its 12th season, with five of the biggest snowboard contests in the world making up the 6 Star tour calendar.

“For the 12th consecutive season we are proud to present a calendar that represents TTR Pro Snowboarding’s push towards a unified environment in competitive snowboarding, yet remains true to the core values of the sport,” said TTR Pro Snowboarding president Reto Lamm. “An Olympic season has always presented a busy schedule for riders, but we have been working hard to build a calendar that takes this into account while maintaining a strong and solid foundation for the tour. Presenting the highest quality of snowboarding events on every level remains our highest priority and we feel with this calendar we have succeeded.’’

The tour’s 6 Star schedule for the men continues with the prestigious Big Air contest Air&Style in the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing. On the 5 Star level, the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix at California’s Northstar-at-Tahoe has been added to the WST calendar from January 6th to 12th, as has the Snowboard Jamboree in Stoneham, Quebec, Canada from January 16th to 19th. The 5 Star level this season counts eight events on four continents.

““We are stoked, in this Olympic season, to continue our partnership with the World Snowboard Tour through our Grand Prix and Revolution Tour events. Co-sanctioning was well received last season, and we’re looking forward to another successful year working together,” said U.S. Snowboarding Director Jeremy Forster.

The year 2013 will wrap up with the 5 Star US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Copper Mountain, Colo., from December 16th to 22nd, which will provide yet another chance for riders to earn World Snowboard Tour points as well as points for Olympic qualification. 2014 will kick off with the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix at Northstar, a U.S. Olympic team selection event. From there, the tour will head to Europe for the classic 6 Star Burton European Open presented by MINI in Laax, Switzerland, the last major contest in Europe before the Olympic Games. For many riders it will provide the last chance to qualify for Sochi. January will come to a close with the X Games in Aspen, Colo., now in its second season as a WST event.

“The rider feedback related to X Games being part of the World Snowboard Tour was very positive, so we look forward to continuing the relationship and once again hosting the top ranked snowboarders in Aspen,” said Tim Reed of X Games owner ESPN.

The focus will shift to the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi Russia, taking place from February 6th to 12th. It will be the first time Slopestyle snowboarding is showcased as an Olympic event. The WST takes a brief hiatus after the Olympics before the season’s final 6 Star event, the Burton U.S. Open in Vail, Colo., where tour’s Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Big Air (men only) and Overall champions will be crowned.

Additional events taking place this winter will dish out points for the 2014-15 season, including the 5 Star Big Air Ride Shakedown contests at Mount Snow, Vt. (March 21-22) and Mont-Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, Canada (April 4-5). X Games Tignes has been dropped from the tour calendar after ESPN called off the event earlier this month.

The tour’s 4 Star level currently includes 15 events spread over three continents, and TTR officials promise that more events will be added to the schedule. The 1-3 Star category, serviced by the World Snowboard Federation, presents rookie-level events all over the world.

The 2013-2014 6 Star Calendar counts the following stops:
