Osprey Launches Avalanche Airbag Packs

Cortez, CO –Osprey Packs, Inc. is expanding its Kode series of  backcountry ski packs for fall/winter 2014 with two additions: the Kode ABS Compatible Series and Kode Race.

“Backcountry skiing and racing continue to grow in popularity. This season’s additions to Kode address the needs of backcountry adventurers in two very different and important ways,” said Gareth Martins, marketing director of Osprey. “With Kode ABS, we are proud to offer packs that seamlessly integrate life-saving airbag technology. With Kode Race, we’re excited to provide an Osprey solution for uphill / downhill race enthusiasts.”

Osprey logoKode ABS Compatible Series
Osprey’s Kode ABS Compatible Series comes as a fully functioning, backcountry ready pack. The Kode ABS Compatible pack body unzips to separate from the backpanel, hipbelt and harness so the small or large ABS™ Vario Base Unit (sold separately) can be attached. With a single zipper, Osprey integrates the technology of ABS into the Kode series to deliver optimal safety and peace of mind in the backcountry.

The removable suspension on Kode ABS features a thermoformed backpanel, contoured harness with insulated hydration tube sleeve and contoured hipbelt with zippered pockets. The Kode ABS Compatible 42 ($220) features top lid and panel access in a large, guide worthy pack, while the Kode ABS Compatible 22+10 ($200) features expandable access to the dry compartment for varying loads.

Both packs share extra-large front panel J-zip access to an avalanche safety kit pocket with shovel and probe sleeve, glove-friendly zippers and buckles, a diagonal ski carry, vertical front panel and horizontal backpanel snowboard carry, reinforced wear points to protect pack from metal edge abrasion, an ice tool loop, a scratch-free goggle pocket and a stowable helmet carry. Dividers separate wet and dry gear.

Kode Race 18 $100

Drawing on design from Osprey’s endurance focused Rev Series, the Kode Race 18 allows uphill/downhill racers to move and transition quickly. Featuring an innovative and easy to use system, Kode Race offers diagonal ski carry and removal without removing the pack. This saves time and effort for randonnee racers when the terrain requires boot packing.

Osprey’s BioStrech™ Wrap Harness provides a wide conforming shoulder harness that wraps the ribcage for a comfortable and secure fit during active and dynamic use. The adjustable and removable dual chest straps provide a variety of positions giving the ability to adjust for maximum stability and lung expansion. Front harness pockets give quick access to food and small gear. Finally, a secure pocket stores crampons or skins and provides quick and easy access without removing the pack while a single ToolLock™ allows ice tool attachment with bungee tie-off.

All three new Osprey ski packs are expected to be on store shelves this fall.
