Lake Louise (AB), Canada – Norway’s Kjetil Jansrud, the Oympic super G champion, made it a clean sweep of Lake Louise on Sunday by winning the World Cup super G, a day after taking the downhill to clinch both season opening speed races.
Veteran Manuel Osborne-Paradis of North Vancouver, B.C., was the top Canadian with a seventh-place finish 0.51 seconds off Jansrud’s pace, a day after finishing tied for second in the Lake Louise downhill. Jan Hudec of Calgary, Alberta, also claimed a top 10 finish for the host Canadian team, finishing ninth.
“I skied well, looking for speed all the way down the hill,” stated Hudec. “I am pleased with my performance, you always want to be on the podium but today was a good result.”
Olympic medalist Andrew Weibrecht, of Lake Placid, N.Y., led the U.S. Ski Team by finishing 20th. Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, Calif.) was 21st despite a top-of-course mistake that literally had him sideways and nearly stopped. Jared Goldberg (Holladay, Utah) was 25th and Steven Nyman (Heber, Utah) 29th.
The men’s World Cup tour now heads to Beaver Creek, Colo., for the Audi Birds of Prey Race Week with racing beginning on Friday.
