Blowing Rock, NC – How does a $5 lift ticket sound? Does free sound even better?
A pair of North Carolina ski resorts are offering skiing for free, or next to free, with a pair of special events this weekend. Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock will offer throwback 1962 pricing on Saturday and Sunday, while on Sunday Cataloochee in Maggie Valley is holding a canned food drive.
App Ski Mountain is rolling back prices to levels charged in 1962, its first winter of operation as Blowing Rock Mountain. Day lift tickets valid for skiing or riding from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. either Saturday and Sunday will cost just $5. It’s in celebration of the resort’s Anniversary Weekend of its 53rd ski season, and already the resort has nine of its 12 ski runs open and covered in snow.
At Cataloochee, show up on Sunday with 24 cans of food or two warm winter jackets of good quality and you’ll receive a lift ticket valid that day from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., normally priced at $62. Food and clothing donated will be given to Haywood Christian Ministries to stock its pantry for the holiday season. Cataloochee is presently open on the bottom two-thirds of its ski mountain.
