Women of Winter Series at Solitude

Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT – Women of Winter (W.O.W.) offers six events throughout the 2014-2015 ski season at Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah featuring coaching by renowned female athletes.

The events are intended to create a comfortable and safe environment for women to ask questions, improve their skills, and meet other women who share a passion for winter. By partnering with local professional athletes, SheJumps.org, and a number of other organizations, Solitude has designed a series of programs with something for everyone. Yoga instruction will be provided by the SLC Fit Collective, an all-women’s gym in Salt Lake City.

International Women’s Ski Day
December 13, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Moonbeam Parking Lot/Base Area
Participant Cost: Free toparticipate in festivities. 50% off lift ticket for that day for those who sign-up in advance. Free for season pass holders.Solitude is kicking off the season with International Women’s Ski Day. The day’s events will include:

10 a.m. Meet in theMoonbeam Parking Lot for coffee provided by Olympic silver medalist ShannonBahrke’s Silver Bean Coffee, food and bonfire.11 a.m. Beginner/intermediate skiers and snowboarders meet at the bottom of Moonbeam lift to “girlbomb” Little Dollie. Intermediate/advanced skiers and riders meet at the bottom of Eagle Express to “girlbomb” Sunshine Bowl.

2 p.m. Participants reconvene for prize giveaways, beer sponsored by Epic Brewing, and beacon drills with The Utah Avalanche Center.

SheJumps Nordic Skiing and Winter Solstice Celebration
December 21, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Creekside Conference Room, follow W.O.W signs in the Solitude Village
Participant Cost: $25
Event Capacity: 20 people
Yoga, nordic skiing, Scandinavian themed snacks, tasty drinks. Meeting in the Solitude Village, first floor of Creekside.

Freeride with Grete Eliassen
January 17, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Creekside Conference Room, follow W.O.W. signs in the Solitude Village

Spend a day cruising the mountain with Grete Eliassen and the ladies of SheJumps. Challenge yourself on technical terrain management, steep skiing/snowboarding, and get pointers from professional skier and snowboarder women. Face your fears in a comfortable and supportive environment. Start the morning with restorative yoga with Kaari Rowberry of the SLC Fit Collective. Gourmet, healthy lunch provided. Advanced to expert skiers and snowboarders only for this event.

Your Turn with Lisa Densmore
Wednesday, January 28, 2015 and Saturday, February 28, 20158:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Creekside Conference Room, follow W.O.W signs in the Solitude Village

Ski Solitude with former U.S. ski team member and highly regarded coach and ski instructor, Lisa Densmore. Learn about women’s specific ski gear and enjoy lunch on the house. Demos available from Elan. Intermediate skiers welcome. (This is a skier only clinic.)

Explore the Mountain with Solitude’s Mogul Mama, Shannon Bahrke
Saturday, February 21, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Creekside Conference Room, follow W.O.W signs in the Solitude Village
Pricing: TBD
Bring the kiddos and hit the slops with Solitude’s very own Olympian, Shannon Bahrke. Start the day off right with “kid focused” yoga, coffee and hot chocolate. Take a break from the slopes and warm up the toes while building your best snowman. Fathers and sons welcome. Professional coaching from Solitude’s Snow Sports Academy and Shannon. (This is a snowboarding and skiing event.)
