Snow King to Open for Early Season Ski Training Camps

Jackson, WY – Snow King Resort in Jackson will open during the month of November to accommodate ski training camps hosted by the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, as well as Nor-Am Cup Alpine slalom races on November 24-27.

Recent on-mountain improvements, including the installation of a state-of-the-art snowmaking system capable of creating an 18-24 inch deep base snow surface within a week, is credited with this new early season activity at Snow King scheduled to begin on November 1.  In early 2014, Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, in partnership with Snow King Mountain, the Wyoming Business Council, and the Town of Jackson, embarked on its Building Our Base Campaign, a project to install a $3.6 million snowmaking and lighting system on Snow King Mountain as an important first step toward establishing Jackson’s “town hill” as a world-class winter sports training and competition center and to potentially expand the ski season by up to seven weeks.

Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club is drawing teams from around the region and country to train during the traditionally slow month of November, when most hotels, restaurants and attractions either close or move to limited service.  In recent years, ski and snowboarding camps have been lost to other Mountain West ski destinations. Encouraging visiting skiers to view Jackson as an early season training destination will boost revenue for local hotels, restaurants and attractions, club organizers say.
