Scott Zerphy, of Lilitz, Penn., was descending Whiteface’s intermediate Summit Express run when he fell and hit his head, according to a resort spokesperson, who added that Zerphy was not wearing a helmet at the time. The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s office indicates that Zerphy died of blunt impact to the head.

Zerphy, who attended Pennsylvania’s Shippensburg University, was employed since 2007 by Clair Global, a provider of audio systems for live events based in Lilitz.

“We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the caring staff and physicians at UVMC for their overwhelming compassion, support and expert care for Scott and our family,” family members wrote in Zerphy’s obituary published yesterday. “They are truly angels doing the Lord’s good work here on earth. Through their efforts, Scott was able to give the gifts of hope and life to many others this Christmas.”
