Bear Valley, CA – California’s Bear Valley will explode tonight.
No, it’s not a doomsday prediction from Nostradamus, nor is it a side effect of a Godzilla El Niño winter plastering California this season. Instead, the Winter Explosion is an annual on-mountain Martin Luther King Day Weekend festival at Bear Valley Resort featuring live music, a kid-friendly movie, sledding, dining, and a torchlight parade with fireworks.
Subject to change and weather permitting, the Winter Explosion festival schedule is as follows:
- 4:30 p.m.: Live music in the day lodge (and continuing with Megan Slankard at Cathedral Lounge at the Bear Valley Lodge, post fireworks)
- 4:30 p.m.: Sledding (after lifts stop turning and slope is safe and clear)
- 5:00 p.m.: A movie for the kids in the Sunroom
- 5:30 p.m.: Food for everyone (the menu is TBD, but Bear Valley’s chef is thinking Mexican or Italian)
- 6:45 p.m.: Torchlight parade down the mountain, open to the first 100 advanced skiers/boarders who sign up. You must sign up on Saturday in person.
- 7:00 p.m.: Fireworks begin (immediately following the torchlight parade)
The last bus from the resort back down to the village departs after the fireworks are over.
Dinner prices are $18 for adults, and $12 for children ages 3-12.
