Quebec (QC), Canada – Canadian slopestyle skier Alex Beaulieu-Marchand broke his collarbone last Wednesday while training independently in Breckenridge, Colo.

Beaulieu-Marchand, 21, will require surgery to fix the break and is expected to be out of action for at least four to six weeks. As a result, at a minimum the Quebec City native will miss this week’s FIS World Cup in Mammoth Mountain, Calif. and the X Games in Aspen, Colo. at the end of the month.

“I’m really disappointed right now as I had just worked my way back from a knee injury and competed in December at the Dew Tour for the first time in eleven months,” said Beaulieu-Marchand. “I’ve had some bad luck with injuries the last two years, but I am confident that I will recover from this and come back stronger.”

At the Dew Tour, Beaulieu-Marchand was the only Canadian male to reach the finals. He will be meeting with team doctors to devise the best possible recovery plan to ensure he is at full health before returning to competition, Canadian Freestyle Ski Association officials indicate.
