Moscow, Russia – The second-to-last event of the parallel slalom World Cup season takes place tomorrow, with the world’s best raceboarders taking over Moscow for a city event under the lights. A parallel slalom will be staged on a massive purpose-built ramp built just outside the city center at the Krylatskoye Sports Center.

This season’s Moscow PSL marks the sixth stop of the alpine snowboard World Cup circuit. It has become a tradition-rich event over the recent years, with its streak continuing since 2010, only interrupted by the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games. And with athletes from the host nation of Russia once again playing a major role in this season’s battle for the World Cup titles, the single-run format will even be more exciting for fans.

Right now, 2011 Moscow winner Ekaterina Tudegesheva of Russia, who has had three podiums thus far this season including one victory, sits in second place in the PSL title hunt with 1,360 points, only 90 points behind Olympic PGS champion Patrizia Kummer of Switzerland, who herself won in Moscow in 2012 and is in second place in the overall alpine snowboard World Cup ranking, 230 points behind Ester Ledecka of the Czech Republic.

At least four other riders from the Russian team coached by Denis Sagaev are traveling home in hopes of capturing the momentum from last weekend’s Rogla parallel giant slalom won by reigning world champion Andrey Sobolev, who was joined on the podium by two-time Olympic champion Vic Wild.

The local heroes will face some stiff competition from Ledecka and Bulgaria’s Radoslav Yankov, who are intent upon maintaining their domination of the World Cup tour this season.  They’ll be joined by 2015 World Champion Claudia Riegler of Austria, America’s Justin Reiter and Roland Fischnaller of Italy, who have also proven that they can deal with the pressure that Moscow’s short course delivers.

Finals will get underway at 7 p.m. local time on Saturday in Moscow.
