East Burke, VT – A 58-year-old Massachusetts man died on Monday after losing control and crashing while skiing at Q Burke Resort in Vermont.

Shirinian Varter of Watertown was descending Burke’s Big Dipper trail with a family member shortly before 4 p.m. when he lost control, traveled into the adjacent woods and collided with a tree.

Varter, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vermont State Police say that while there are no signs of foul play, their investigation is continuing while the autopsy results are pending.
