Brian Head, UT – A bankruptcy filing over a disputed mortage on the Grand Lodge at Brian Head is just the latest legal wrangling for a New York State man.

Zohar Cohen, 27, of Monsey, N.Y., controls Cohen Grand Lodge LLC of Mahwah, N.J., which in February 2015 purchased the 100-room Grand Lodge, once a Double Tree Resort and the primary ski-in/ski out lodging property at Brian Head ski resort in southern Utah. Cohen Grand Lodge LLC filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sunday night in an effort to block a foreclosure sale on the property scheduled for Monday morning. Lawyers representing the company indicate that they dispute the amount owned on the Lodge’s mortgage.

Cohen himself has faced a number of other legal issues in Utah. A warrant for Cohen’s arrest was issued in May over felony allegations that he took out credit card accounts using the identity of a former Grand Lodge general manager, but those charges were later dropped after Iron County, Utah prosecutors determined that the dispute was civil in nature rather than criminal, and Cohen paid nearly $50,000 in restitution. Separately, two investors have filed a $15.8 million lawsuit against Cohen and a business partner in a New York court alleging that they were misled when they invested in Cohen’s acquisition of another property, a 2,600-acre ranch in Iron County. A Texas investor in that deal has already been awarded $1.1 million from Cohen by a federal judge in Houston.
