Crystal Mountain, WA – The championships of the six-stop North American Junior Freeskiing Tour are taking place at Washington State’s Crystal Mountain ski area this weekend.nThe competition will work with the mountain’s natural terrain features, especially steeps and cliffs. Competitors are all under the age of 18.
“These kids have skied eight to ten different competitions and are at their peak,” said Crystal Mountain Freeride Program coach and professional skier, Wayne Grevey. “This final tour stop will showcase their talent and what Crystal Mountain has to offer.”
One hundred competitors will be vying for the top spot, beginning with Saturday’s first run on Snorting Elk Chutes. The second run and super finals will take place Sunday either on Northway Peak or Crystal Mountain’s crowning jewel, the Silver King.
Several local teens will be competing and are expected to make a strong presence. Crystal Mountain skiers took first place in the championships last year in three out of the four categories.
