Pacific Palisades, CA – Environmental advocacy group Protect Our Winters (POW) announced on Thursday that in partnership with lifestyle apparel brand Volcom V.Co-logical, they will be awarding two individual grants to celebrate Earth Day, April 22nd.nConsistent with their mission of mobilizing the ski and snowboard community to have an impact on climate change, POW will be awarding two $1,000 grants to individuals who submit ideas to complete the phrase:
“I will use $1,000 to fight climate change by doing:_____”.
The two grants will be awarded on Earth Day to the most original and effective ideas that are executable within the grant amount.
“Our supporters are on the front lines of climate change – they see change happening in the mountains before their eyes. So with the support of Volcom, it made sense for us to start directing funds to those individuals who have smart ideas to help solve the situation. We’re excited to see the breadth of the ideas that are submitted”, said POW’s Executive Director, Chris Steinkamp.
“We love the idea of challenging people to take action because action is what creates change. We’re proud to be a POW partner, and we can’t wait to see the ideas that come back from this challenge!”, said Derek Sabori, Volcom’s Director, Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility.
Promoted throughout POW’s membership base, social media and other online channels as well as Volcom’s networks, the contest is designed to encourage grassroots action from throughout the winter sports community and to make real, tangible change.
All entries are due to no later than midnight on April 20th, 2010 to info(at)protectourwinters.org. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd.
