Park City, UT – The Utah Olympic Park has announced that two-time Olympian Emily Cook will join the park’s FLY Freestyle coaching team this summer.nFLY Freestyle is the resident freestyle program at Utah Olympic Park, and a Community Olympic Development Program. FLY breaks down the art of acrobatics on skis and offers fun and progressive options for those wanting to try the sport for a day or be part of a team catering to all ability levels in the disciplines of Freeride, Moguls and Aerials. Summer-long programs include Intro Clinics, Private Lessons, Daily Team Training, and Multi-Day camps.
“I am also excited to assist in the creation of a new generation of Park City Freestyle Aerial athletes,” Cook adds.
She joins FLY Freestyle Head Coach, Tim Preston, a former U.S. Ski Team athlete who competed on the U.S. Mogul Team and at the World Cup level for five seasons, and has seven years of coaching experience.
“We are really fortunate to have Emily on staff, especially since she is still an active competitor bringing a great deal of knowledge about the current changes in the sport of freestyle,” says Preston.
Cook is currently in training in advance of the Deer Valley World Championships in February 2011. “At the last World Championships hosted by Deer Valley Resort I was injured and could not compete,” Cook says. “In the next World Championships held in Japan I placed fourth. I am really looking forward to a little redemption in my own home town come February.”
Part of her summer training at the Utah Olympic Park Freestyle Pool will include participating in several of the Flying Ace Freestyle Shows which are held every Saturday at 1:00 p.m., beginning this week and running through Sept. 4. Spectator admission costs $10 for adults, and $7 for Seniors 65+ and Youth 3-17.
Cook is currently enrolled at the University of Utah and studying Mass Communication. When she is not coaching FLY Development athletes, training, and studying, she is spending time sport climbing and road/mountain biking.
“This summer I am trying to make sure I am playing and having a lot of fun. Coaching FLY Freestyle athletes will be a big part of making sure I have a lot of fun in a sport I love and at a facility I consider home.”
