Wanaka, New Zealand – All eyes will be trained on Treble Cone’s Saddle Basin on Saturday, July 24, when many of New Zealand’s top freeride skiers and snowboarders will take on some of Treble Cone’s most challenging in-bounds terrain in the Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge.nOver 100 skiers and riders are expected to take on the steep faces and rock gardens beneath the Saddle Quad Chairlift, providing entertainment for spectators on the chair. The Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge is the qualifier event for the Volkl New Zealand Freeski Open North Face Big Mountain event and judges will be looking for fluid delivery of the most technical line, combined with the difficulty of any tricks to take competitors to the Volkl New Zealand Freeski Open North Face finals, which will take place in the Mototapu Chutes on Aug. 16.
While not a qualifying event for snowboarders, they will also be pushing their skills to the limits to find the overall male and female freeride champion. With a day’s heliboarding with Harris Mountains up for grabs, competition is bound to be fierce.
Athletes can register online at www.treblecone.com and spectators should have their ringside seat on the Saddle Quad Chair by 10:00 a.m., when the event is scheduled to start.
