Christchurch, New Zealand – A young snowboarder is in intensive care in a Christchurch hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a freak snowboarding accident Wednesday at Mt. Hutt ski area near Methven, New Zealand.nThe boy, whose name and age were not released, was snowboarding with his father and brothers when he tumbled off an embankment and onto an access road. He was airlifted to Christchurch for treatment.

It is not known if the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
