Clarkson Fills Squaw Valley VP of Marketing and Sales

Squaw Valley, CA – Squaw Valley USA has announced the appointment of Scott Clarkson to the newly-created position of Vice President of Marketing and Sales at the California ski resort. Clarkson will be responsible for resort marketing and sales at Squaw Valley Ski Corporation to include The Village at Squaw Valley USA and Squaw Valley Central Reservations. Clarkson will join the Squaw Valley team this September and will report to Senior Vice President and General Manager Mike Livak and to new CEO Andy Wirth.n“We look forward to the experience and expertise that Scott will bring to our mission. Clarkson brings 25 years of experience in mountain resort marketing and sales from positions including at Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont, where he most recently served as Vice President of Marketing and was a member of the executive team. Clarkson’s career at Okemo began in 1995, where he advanced from Director of Marketing throughout his tenure with the resort operating company.

As a member of Okemo’s executive team, Clarkson has developed marketing plans and promotions for all aspects of the winter operation including real estate, resort lodging, culinary and ski and ride school. He has recently been working toward increasing summer business for the resort through the development of creative packaging and supporting events at Okemo’s Jackson Gore Village.

With the acquisition of the Village at Squaw Valley USA last January, the mountain resort experience can now be unified and promoted as a complete vacation destination that appeals to families and to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities,” said Clarkson.

In 1998 Clarkson worked with the executive team from Okemo on their successful proposal to commercially operate New Hampshire’s Mount Sunapee Resort on public lands, and in 2004 he helped Triple Peaks, LLC with the acquisition of Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado. Among other functions Clarkson facilitated a team approach to develop Triple Peaks’ strategic partnerships and design a new line-up of season pass products for the resort company.

Clarkson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lyndon State College in Vermont and attended The Whittemore School of Business at the University of New Hampshire. In 1997, Clarkson and his team won the “Best Overall Marketing Campaign” from the National Ski Areas Association in the 500,000+ skier visit category. Clarkson was also active in the Okemo Valley community serving on various boards to promote youth sports.

Clarkson’s family includes his wife Martha, and their two sons Jamie, a sophomore at University of Colorado at Boulder and Parker, a senior at Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester, Vermont. All are avid skiers and outdoor enthusiasts.
