Boston, MA – Last winter’s success of the U.S. Olympic Ski and Snowboarding Team will be celebrated in Boston this Wednesday as five Olympic champions are coming to town to kick off the 2010-11 ski and snowboarding season. The New England Ski and Snowboard Benefit will feature an A-list cast of athletes ready to be featured at “The Journey Continues” fundraising campaign at the House of Blues.nNew England fans will be brushing shoulders with U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding Olympic athletes including three-time Olympic medalist and two-time overall World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, Colo.) and double Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott (Carrabassett Valley, Maine) along with fellow Olympic gold medalists Hannah Kearney (Norwich, Vt.), Ted Ligety (Park City, Utah) and Ross Powers (Londonderry, Vt.) among several other featured guests.
“The Boston Ski and Snowboard Benefit is a longstanding tradition and it’s a great opportunity to showcase our Olympic champions,” said the Team’s Vice President, Foundation Trace Worthington. “We have exceptional leadership from the Boston business community led by Adage Capital’s Phill Gross and Putnam’s Bob Reynolds. Their enthusiasm for both skiing and snowboarding really adds to the success and fun surrounding the event.”
Ski and snowboard enthusiasts can expect an evening filled with fun and decorated company. Along with the silent and live auction, guests will have the opportunity to mingle with athletes and their medals, share stories of Vancouver and plans for the season ahead as well as for Sochi in 2014. This unique event is expected to be a rare and memorable evening where the Olympics’ finest have gathered to share their success with their supporters. The athletes gave fans 21 reasons to celebrate and the House of Blues will be the place to celebrate in New England on Oct. 6.
“We’re here in Boston with our Olympic champions to celebrate the success of Vancouver,” said Worthington. “But, at the same time, we want to sustain excellence into the future. Support for our next generation of athletes for Sochi in 2014 and beyond is absolutely vital right now.”
The New England benefit kicks-off Wednesday afternoon with the 2010 New England Coaches Track. The Coach’s Track, a highly successful event in its second consecutive year, is event where U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s club leaders join in a unique athletic workshop featuring key national sport leaders, such as Sport Education Director John Nolting and High Performance Director Troy Flanagan.
