Calgary (AB), Canada – Canada~Snowboard confirmed today its calendar of events for the 2011 season. The upcoming winter will feature two LG Snowboard FIS World Cup events, two Canada~Snowboard Nationals events and one FIS NorAm Cup event. An additional FIS NorAm Cup event could be added to the calendar later this month.nIn order to deliver the best possible competition venues for the riders, Canada~Snowboard Nationals has been split into two events again this season: “style events” which will feature halfpipe and slopestyle at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, and “speed events” which will feature snowboardcross, parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom at Lake Louise.
Riders from across Canada will gather in Alberta to compete for the titles of Canadian Champion and Canadian Junior Champion, as well as celebrate the end of the Canadian competitive snowboard season.
“We are truly excited about the improvements to the Canada~Snowboard Nationals program this season. Riders and coaches can look forward to a refreshed event experience,” said Tim O’Brien, event director at Canada~Snowboard. “Using the feedback we received from the snowboard community last season, we acted on the positive and constructive comments for the planning of the 2011 Canada~Snowboard Nationals.”
The 2011 Style Nationals will take place at WinSport Canada’s Canada Olympic Park, in Calgary, Alberta, from March 14th to 20th, two weeks after the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup. National and provincial level riders will be joined by an expanded group of snowboarders, as an open category will be added to both the halfpipe and slopestyle competitions to include riders who do not typically compete for FIS points.
The 2011 Speed Nationals will take place at the Lake Louise Ski Area, in Lake Louise, Alberta, from April 7th to 11th, with the snowboard cross competition taking place on an enhanced version of their new, permanent snowboard cross course. Over 125 of the fastest riders in Canada are expected at the event, including Olympic medalists Maëlle Ricker, Dominique Maltais, Jasey-Jay Anderson and Mike Robertson.
Both event schedules will include increased opportunities for on-snow training, as well as the creation of a separate category for the junior riders. Off-snow, Canada~Snowboard is working on some concepts to increase the “fun” factor, such as a rider film and photo contests, workshops from industry leaders for coaches and riders and of course, parties.
