Killington, VT – Killington Resort announced today that it will open for skiing and snowboarding on Tuesday, the first Vermont resort to do so.nReturning to its former practice of opening upper mountain terrain in the North Ridge area first, the K-1 Gondola will provide uploading and downloading beginning at 10 a.m., while access back to the top of the K-1 Gondola from the North Ridge area will be via a five to 10 minute walk on the new Peak Walkway. Four trails will be available on Tuesday.

In recent years, the ski resort — which markets itself as “The Beast of The East” — has opened only when skiing was available top-to-bottom off the gondola. The new Peak Walkway was constructed this fall to facilitate skiing and riding on the upper mountain only.

“The new Peak Walkway accomplishes our goal of utilizing our upper mountain snowmaking resources to build early-season momentum, offer our season pass holders and dedicated guests an outstanding experience on deep base depths and remain open for the season, conditions permitting,” said Chris Nyberg, Killington president and general manager.

Open terrain will include more difficult and most difficult only. No beginner terrain will be available. Snow depths average 18 inches. Season pass holders who have not activated their passes may do so at the Snowshed Sales Center beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The Peak Restaurant will be open for lunch and the K-1 Lodge will be open for ticket sales, guest service, retail and restrooms. The early-season terrain park on Reason will also open Tuesday.

Lift tickets for opening day will be priced at $49 for adults, $42 for young adults/seniors and $34 for “Junior/Senior Plus”.

Beginning Wednesday, Killington Resort will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week until Saturday, Nov. 27, when Killington will offer 8 a.m. openings of select lifts on weekends and peak days.
