Salt Lake City, UT – Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center are once again this year holding a Snow and Avalanche Workshop this Saturday at The Depot in Salt Lake City.nModeled after the International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW), the Utah Snow and Avalanche Workshop (USAW) provides a venue for experienced skiers, sledders, and avalanche professionals to get together, along with those new to the game, to take a closer look at the underbelly of the avalanche dragon.
“Join us to geek out on snow science, learn from the pros and each other, and reconstruct a few close calls from last season to discuss what can be learned from those experiences,” says Utah Avalanche Center forecaster, Craig Gordon.
The agenda includes an update on discussions from ISSW, held last month at Squaw Valley USA in California, as well as discussions surrounding near-surface faceting and buried surface hoar instability, an analysis of both the Boulder Mountain incident in Canada last March and the Alexander Basin incident last February in Utah, a look back at early avalanche control efforts at Snowbird, and more. The day will conclude with a social gathering at The Blue Goose located in The Depot.
Admission costs $25 and attendees can register online at www.24tix.com.
