Sun Peaks (BC), Canada – Tourism Sun Peaks (TSP) has been named the winner of two 2010 Tourism Excellence Awards through the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA).nLast October’s “I want to be the Snow Bum” campaign took top prize for the Innovative Marketing and Promotions (Tier 2) category at the awards gala dinner held at Sparkling Hill Resort near Vernon, British Columbia Thursday night. The awards ceremony was part of the 2nd annual Thompson Okanagan Tourism Industry Summit.
The Snow Bum campaign was designed to generate both public and media awareness about Sun Peaks as a world class ski and snowboard destination, leading into winter 2009-10. Thanks to strategic targeting through organic Facebook and Twitter buzz, plus editorial pitches to key media publications, the campaign, and ultimately the ski resort, garnered significant interest around the world.
“Sun Peaks is honored to be recognized by our peers and this award is shared with the entire Sun Peaks community,” says Christopher Nicolson, President of Tourism Sun Peaks. “The initiative met our objectives of increasing online content as well as awareness of Sun Peaks as one of Canada’s leading ski destinations.
Tourism Sun Peaks also took home the award in the category of New or Enhanced Visitor Experience for the unique Summer Experience program launched in the resort this past summer. This program showcased the best of Sun Peaks’ restaurants and activities. From golf and dine packages, to nature walks paired with three course dinners, there were ten experiences for guests to choose from at all price points.
After the success of the Snow Bum campaign, TSP is working on a new campaign that will launch mid-November in time for the ski resort’s scheduled opening Nov. 20.
