Vancouver (BC), Canada – Steven Hills has been appointed as the interim chief executive officer of Canada~Snowboard, the governing body of competitive snowboarding in Canada, starting this week until May of 2011. Hills has been appointed to ensure a smooth transition as current CEO Tom McIllfaterick announced his resignation last month.nHills started his new functions on Monday at the Canada~Snowboard headquarters in Vancouver. The Board of Directors will shortly initiate the search for a full‐time chief executive officer, which will lead the organization starting in May of 2011 towards the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
“We have narrowed down our selection to a candidate that we feel will best represent the interests of our cherished sport, with solid managerial experience as well as a wealth of knowledge in the sports industry,” said Michael Gray, Chairperson of the Board of Directors. “We took the decision to hire on an interim basis as we need time to regroup, consult and ensure that we find the right person for this important position.”
Hills is no stranger to the sports industry, having served as vice‐president of business operations for the Canadian Sport Centre Pacific (CSCP). While at the CSCP, Hills successfully played a key role in the development and implementation of a strategic plan, while overseeing business operations of the organization. Hills also worked in close collaboration with some of Canada~Snowboard stakeholders, such as Sport Canada, Own The Podium and the Canadian Olympic Committee.
