Defying Mother Nature, Woodbury Ski Area Opens in Connecticut

Woodbury, CT – With daytime temperatures hitting the 60s in Connecticut this week, some would say that Woodbury Ski Area owner Rod Taylor might be a little crazy trying to make snow and open. But that’s precisely what he did.nCold air pooling at Woodbury’s base dropped nighttime temperatures this week into the 20s, even though surrounding weather stations reported temps in the 40s. It was enough for Woodbury’s snowmaking crews to make a small patch of snow near the base of the ski area and open the season for skiing and riding Friday morning.

The ski area’s Rasta Rope Tow and Little Timer Magic Carpet are carrying anxious jibbers to the Beginner Hill and the Alpine Snowboard Park this weekend. Lessons are available and a small snow tubing area also opened on Friday.
