Calgary (AB), Canada – If you see members of the Men’s Canadian Alpine Ski Team sporting mustaches this month, understand that it’s for a good cause.nSeveral members of the team have mustaches during the month of “Movember” to raise awareness and funds for a men’s health charity, something the Canadian team has actually been doing for a few seasons.

“It started three years ago with (Canadian ski racer) Pat Biggs growing a mustache to take part in ‘Movember.’ It was more of a fashion statement at first but he ended up raising money,” said national team skier Trevor White of Calgary, who is one of the skiers participating in the charitable movement. “So last season with the Olympics approaching and the media attention, I thought it would be great to participate in the fundraising as a team. Both as a fun way to bond and represent our team, and to raise some serious funds for prostate cancer and awareness of men’s health issues.

“Our objectives were met as we were the hype of the World Cup circuit. We managed to raise C$3,000 for the cause. This year I spread the challenge to our speed team as well and they are on board, with a total goal of raising C$5,000,” added White.

According to a Canadian “Movember” charity website the growth of a mustache is intended to be a symbol of commitment to bring awareness to this disease that 4,400 men in Canada die of each year and affects nearly one in six men during their lifetime.
