Festival to Launch Ski and Snowboard Season in Avoriaz

Avoriaz, France – Avoriaz will officially launch its 2010-11 ski and snowboard season in the French Alps with a Snowsports Festival featuring gear demos, freestyle competitions, live music and more.nThe Rock On Ski & Snowboard Tour combines rock music and freestyle skiing and riding, with a snowsports and music mix at all scheduled events. An exhibitors village will feature 40 ski and snowboard brands to test drive for free, and an opportunity to win your favorite. Snowboard brands on hand will include Burton, Apo, Bataleon, K2 Snowboarding, Nidecker, Nitro, Salomon, Imperium, DC, Lib Tech, Rome SDS, Yes, Flow, Union, Gnu, Roxy, and Forum. Skis will be represented by Armada, Apo, K2, Faction, Line, Blackcrows, Dynastar, Rossignol, Scott, and White Cristal, while accessory exhibitors will include Action Camera, Flip Video and Oakley.

New this year, children’s workshops will take place in a dedicated area with equipment loan featuring not only boards and boots but also snow clothes, goggles and helmets, with a free introduction to snowboarding provided by professional instructors. An Avoriaz ski pass is free for children under 10.

The “Pop This” Ollie Battle will be a snowboard contest pitting goofy against regular, with stuff to win from K2. The “Looking for the New Snowboard Rock Star” seeks out amateur freestyle snowboarders, while live music will be highlighted by a free concert with Gaston Pluton. A new snow park comprised completely of music inspired features including a micro slam, piano box, drum n’jib, butter case, wall ride radio, turn table, air bonk and rail guitar will be set up just for the weekend. Pro riders will face off in this special Shred Zone, with the winner heading home with a new guitar Gibson amp. Saturday night will be highlighted by a Freestyle Ski Show featuring pro riders and live music in the heart of the resort.

Lift tickets will be specially discounted on opening weekend to 15.5€ per day, and weekend accommodation is available beginning at 17.75€ per night.
