Lake, River, or Ocean Views From Ski Areas

Quite a collection! Got my first lake view in Idaho from the top of Tamarack.

    ski-air travel stories

Sounds similar to the Delta AMEX card. I just got one for a trip to Switzerland (not skiing). Plus with Southwest becoming more like a standard major airline, I might start considering the Delta non-stop flight from my home airport to SLC.

Vail Resorts shareholders are upset. Has Vail ruined skiing?

Question for those who ski Tahoe. Is there a noticeable difference in lift lines Fri, Sat, Sun between Ikon and Epic resorts? I haven't skied Tahoe mid-season since 2010. I have some sense of the differences between the Epic and Ikon resorts in terms of lift lines or crowded groomers in...

Younger Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

A center pole double is better than riding solo on a triple with no safety bar. There are three of them at Brian Head. The one that serves mostly black terrain is relatively long and gets reasonably high. I rode up behind a chair with a big guy sitting in the middle with a hand firmly gripped...

    ski-air travel stories

Article with basic info about how Air Tags can be useful for traveling. I've been using two lately. One that is in my backpack and another in checked luggage. Have been using one AirTag long enough that I got the Low Battery warning. March 19, 2025...

    Copper Mountain Upgrade/Expansion Plans

Wonder if the timing for expansion plans for Copper are at all related to Powdr selling off Killington, Eldora, and Bachelor?

Agree. I use a small Dakine 6.5L backpack at times at a mountain big enough to have multiple on-mountain places to stop for a break or lunch. Can't remember when, but I was asked to take off a strap somewhere. That was a surprise. In that case, it depended on the liftie.

Correct, Wildcat at Alta has no safety bar. It mostly serves black terrain, with a couple of blue routes when unloading going straight to the cat track that leads to Aggie's Alley. The old center pole double that was Cecret served beginner trails and had no safety bar. When Supreme became a...

It happened more than once at Alta. Hence the "upgrade" to add safety bars with no footrests but something to keep little kids from sliding underneath the bar. That happened after 2011, a few years after I was taking my then tween daughter to Alta Lodge for spring break trips. @Sbooker : In...

Can't remember where, but I've skied at mountains in the USA where people were required to put their large backpack in front of them for the chairlift ride. Fair to say that I probably ski at smaller ski hills in different regions that you do, meaning places where a long run takes under 4...

Depends a bit on the type of footrest. Newer lifts have little triangles on the bottom instead of a straight pole sticking out sideways. Plenty of snowboarders at Wolf Creek in Colorado. I rode up with a few last weekend on a full quad that worked out fine. Although riding up a full quad...

What sticks in my memory was the story of a death in NY of an experienced skier at a small hill because of his backpack. He was a ski patroller and a grandfather.

    ski-air travel stories

Put an AirTag in my ski bag for a Southwest trip to ABQ in early February. Southwest now has luggage tracking. However, it's based on hand scanning. It didn't get scanned when being loaded onto my connecting flight. Since I could see that it was unloaded at that airport and than it was close...

    POWDR resorts up for sale

No mention of Alterra in the NY Times article. ". . . Bidding Against the Giants It is unclear whether Mt. Bachelor Community, Inc. has a viable chance at overseeing that growth. Things are moving quickly. Others are making bids, though Powdr officials declined to name interested parties. Mt...
