My mistake. I was only comparing them to the Socal Transverse. There are actually several W-E facing mountain ranges across North Amercia, but for some reason most only consider the Uinta's and San Gabriels/San Bernardinos true transverse ranges.

As far as transverse ranges, don't forget the Uinta's, which is the highest transverse range in N. America.

    American Election 2024

In regards to our previous exchange.... This is why I feel like the idea of no war/conflict is much closer than it might have been previously. This is a much different Trump than his first term.

    American Election 2024

Trump is a megalomanic. I don't think he'd hesitate for a second to get into an armed conflict.

Big White, BC. February 10-11, and Apex Mtn, BC. Feb.13-14, 2025

Don't just assume they are 'too cool 'to put the bar/footrest down. It can be a PIA trying to maneuver with the footrest when you have a board attached to your foot at a 45º angle, especially if you have a full lift of people. It can be charley-horse city. I adapted OK at Big white when several...

Big White, BC. February 10-11, and Apex Mtn, BC. Feb.13-14, 2025

Last year we hit 49º N and Whitewater during this week, and this year was another Indy Pass-ish trip up north... with Big White and Apex (and possibly 49 N again). The wife and I did a trip to the Okaogan last week. The region saw roughly a foot of new snow the previous week, but that was about...

Younger Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

My problem is not everyone skis. Sure, the safety bars without footrests are fine, but the ones with footrests can be a major PIA for snowboarders. I've cramped up/charlie-horsed several times in the past to accommodate a full HSQ. Then the fiasco of raising the bar before getting off, (and yes...

    Apex, B.C., Jan. 16, 2025

If I were traveling by myself or with a buddy, that might often be the choice, but w/the wife (very fair-weather skier), she likes to have a plan and comfortable lodging. Plus, we're not staying in Kelowna for either place, we're doing ski in/out. Also, I got 35% off at ski in/out @ Big White...

We are locked in for lodging, so no flexibility there. The Indy Pass is walk up, so if it really sucks, we can opt out of riding that day. Each day, models seem to be showing a better chance for that pattern change. Sorry you didn't get better conditions while you're there, though.

That report isn't very promising, however the prolonged west coast ridging may finally break down in about a week. I'll be up there in about 3 weeks utilizing my Indy Pass (49 North, Big White and Apex).

    LA Fires: Jan 2025

Spot on analysis. From what I've heard, aircraft were indeed grounded for much of the worst part of the devastation due to the severe winds. All the planning in the world won't prevent a 50+mph firestorm from going wherever it wants. I've heard fire specialists say that embers were reported up...

    Grand Targhee 12/30/2024

congrats... looks like you scored! I lived in Alta, WY/Driggs in 2013-2014. It was so awesome having it as a local hill that year. A lot has changed since then, with the Coulter lift and lift tix prices more than doubling what they were back then. However, the powder is probably just as good...

    Holiday Ski Plans, again!

thats not bad at all for Jackson. Targhee is very light.... although, it's also after 2... but still. I suspect visibility is also a factor. Tamarack, ID yesterday was ~ 20 minutes. Haven't heard how long Brundage lines were, but I suspect less thanks to the new HSQ, which now gives 2...

    Holiday Ski Plans, again!

December started slow (only a few inches until the 13th), but the dreaded long term high pressure did not redevelop over our area as expected, as things picked up again the 14th through the 18th... the next ~10 days look pretty good, but snow levels could be an issue at times. Not really any...
