I left San Jose at 5, arrived Alpine at 8:40, loaded Roundhouse about 915 and skied the main groomer to Summit. From top I skied right side of Alpine Bowl, then found good snow on E-facing Weasel run and wide main run under Treeline Cirque. I skied to and rode that chair. After skiing the main groomer there again, I stopped at The Chalet to re-adjust my boots and re-fill my water. They have a weekday special of sausage and a beer for $24 which sounds like a lot until you see the sausage is $17 and beers $12 (Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing) and $14 (Pliny the Elder) and they have other good choices. This is main Treeline Cirque run not at it's busiest.
I rode Treeline Cirque a couple more times and then rode Roundhouse again to meet virtual (until today) friend who is using one of my OpenSnow group subscriptions and has shared some of the San Jose Sharks tickets he gets from working there with me. We met up with his 23 year-old son and skied Summit a few times finding best snow going past Wolverine Bowl to where sun was hitting it. View of clouds over Lake from top of Summit just after 11. They cleared quickly after.
They had skied Waterfall earlier and did not recommend it. We skied once to skiers right of Alpine Bowl (run, not chair) and did not like looks of Palisades runs so skied some good snow between there and Alpine Bowl. Then I led us off an area that is usually well-covered to find it mostly a rocky cliff and I clipped a rock getting past it. We found a lot of good snow, some scraped off places and a few rocks. We also found some good snow in Sympathy area. View of Lake on my last Summit lap after 3.
People were hiking above Palisades (big rock to right) to get to ski the Saddle (top is in sun in center). I parked between Subway and TLC and skied to within 2' of my SUV. SkiTracks counted 18 runs, 8 Summits and 4 Roundhouses and 19.5K vertical. My watch was close in vertical, but only had 17 runs, probably not counting my after lunch ride of Subway and skiing to Treeline Cirque chair. Drive down West Shore of Lake to South Tahoe was scenic, but slow with a lot of tourists and only two legal passing areas that I used to pass to get behind the next slow tourist.
