    Le Massif: Major Cutbacks

Sad to hear about Le Massif. My family should have been a big fat target market for them. We aren't diehards like most on this forum, but for a number of years we did at least one or two ski trips a year with the kids, dropping a good bit of change on each one. Loved the idea of Le Massif...

The 11 pm news tonight said that they were trying to shut it down after winds lifted a line off its tracks. Thank goodness for the snow fall.

    Lift derails at the Loaf

A poignant reminder for anyone that whines and complains about windholds. There is a reason for them. Thankfully the resort got 51 to 56 cms of snow the day before, and there was no grooming under the lift so there was a relatively soft landing area. The outcome could have been much, much worse.

Then you should get a chuckle from this. Gords in Winnipeg does ski testing and reviews every year. They go east and west, east being Tremblant. "CONDITIONS We test on the worst conditions you could possibly imagine... Like that year when it was -45 and the snow was not unlike hardened...

Edelweiss QC, Saturday February 20, 10

Sounds familiar from daughter's ski lesson days. Been to Edelweiss, Fortune and Cascade this season, and for the pitiful bit of snow Ottawa has had, I give them kudos for keeping reasonable conditions in a tough year.

BC search-and-rescue volunteers consider quitting after lost

Food points. Unfortunately, if they had stuck by an SOS they would likely have been spotted. My understanding is that the SOS's were not spotted by potential rescuers, they were spotted by helicopter pilots doing other business. Then the RCMP were not notified until after the second sighting...

    Women's skis

I bought my 16 year old daughter 2008 Volkl Pearl skis for Christmas and they have turned out to be a tremendous ski for her. She loved them from the first run and a couple of weeks ago got to really test them over 2 days at Jay Peak when there had been almost no snow for a couple of weeks...

    Jay Peak 2/23 morning report

I seem to recall a thread not long ago when some of your friends wanted to hang with you, but without the skill level, and they got way in over their heads in the glades. Sometimes it's better to break up, let it go, and arrange for a meeting spot later. And even some very good skiers aren't...

Laurentian Powder days continue ( Feb 1 )

We were Tremblant on Friday and it was the conditions were great. The kids were in a few glades and said the snow was really good, with no ice. Even without the massive snow like last year, there was no January thaw/freeze cycle around Ottawa this year and overall these have been about the...
