well, just got back down the mountain for my first day of riding this year. nice way to pass the time until the real snow comes and the full mountains open. the snowline is getting close to the valley floor, but the rideable terrain is pretty limited. only mid-mountain is open; it'll take a while for the top to fill in and anything below 1300m is pretty thin.
the snow was medium density and coverage on-piste was pretty good. a couple of brave / crazy folks were taking runs through some boulder fields and the ambulance was parked at the bottom ready for them.
the crowds were getting pretty crazy by 11am, but i think this will die down again quickly once daily operations begin.
all in all a great way to start the season. let's hope the precip keeps coming in white and the whole mountain opens up later this month!
looking up from the base at 8am.
whistler special: pea soup
...emerging from the clouds
upper mountain looks pretty thin
planning ahead
heavy crowds when only two chairs are running
it's 3C in the valley today and calling for moderate snow over the next 3 days...
