thanks for the info..........hope to make it

noted that there is Mexican food served.........should be......well i know what it will be.........

if any of the salt lake natives can drop me a line as to where i can get some edible mexican food here or even a killer carniceria for some good apres-ski carne asada to throw on the grill, LMK

i may have had to endure baldy's rickety 4 lifts and abysmal "season pass" programs for the last 10+ years, my reward was great -- really good mexican food on every corner..............................

Red Iguana (go for the moles)
Lone Star Tacqueria (Tex-Mex)
Tacqueria 27 (gourmet street tacos)
Hector's (dirtbag cheap)

If you're looking for simple enchiladas/burritos/etc. the local Cafe Rio chain makes their own tortillas from scratch on site and their stuff is actually pretty good.

Red Iguana is every bit the equal of the best you can find in SoCal. You will wait awhile to get in at peak times though.

Everything he said....plus another plug for the Red Iguana. It frequently appears in "Top 10 Mexican Restaurants in North America" and similar lists. And don't go only for the moles - everything on the menu is great! Also, there are two locations several hundred yards apart - the older one on North Temple loaded with character but pretty cramped and the new, more open and airy one a block west and a block south; identical menu.

Cafe Rio is actually pretty damned good for casual Tex-Mex (no liquor or beer, BTW).
Avoid the La Frontera/La Fountain/La Whatever pseudo-chain (I really don't understand their ownership, name similarities, and name changes).

The Blue Iguana has no relationship whatsoever to the Red Iguana! Don't be snookered!

If you want excellent upscale southwestern, Chimayo on Main St in Park City is hard to beat. Similar in concept to a number of Tucson restaurants or Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill.

Agree completely! I learned that lesson the hard way at lunch one day shortly after moving here.

And to elaborate on the Cafe Rio comments, a) it's pass-through counter service, b) it's therefore cheap, c) it's closed on Sundays, d) there's a frequent diner card where something like the 10th entree is free, e) my picky diner wife adores their cilantro lime vinaigrette salad dressing, f) their sweet barbacoa pork is to die for, and g) Costa Vida is identical except for the decor. The story has something to do with the Cafe Rio founders getting a divorce and the losing half starting Costa Vida. Cafe Rio has online ordering and an express counter for pickup, which avoids their sometimes insane lines one you get to know their menu.

There are now two more locations operated by the Red Iguana: a restaurant within Salt Lake International Airport, perfect for visiting skiers who didn't find a way to make it to one of their primary restaurants one night, and a fast food court outlet in City Creek Center downtown. Of the two primary locations that Marc_C mentioned I far and away prefer the original for its character. Be sure to find the Los Lobos autograph drawn on one wall (the restaurant is a band favorite when they pass through town).

Finally, apologies to the Friends of the UAC for the thread hijack!
