8-12" new at Waterman, opening Saturday

Anyone been up there recently? Reported base of 1-2 feet won't cut it on the face IMHO. It's only 6,900 elevation at the ticket window and ~6,500 at the bottom of Avalanche. It is all north facing, so will preserve much better than chair 1 at Baldy. But after the warm and dry March I would want input from a recent trip report.

Gosh, is that what they are reporting now? If 39 opens, maybe I'll make it up. 8)

Was there on Tues. 6" wet slush on top of 2-3' base whare not burned off to the ground, new snow smoothed everything out, should be great corn by Sat.

Skied last sunday. Had a blast. The wind Sunday was mostly on the ridges. Solid coverage everywhere. Face runs were good after 12. By 1pm you could ski anywhere on the face shadded tree runs etc. I'll go back if there open Sunday.

I'm heading up on Saturday for my 2 year old daughter's second day on skis. While I'd prefer Waterman due to the shorter drive and overall vibe, I'm inclined to hit MH instead b/c of the convenience of the beginner area being right at the base. My understanding re: Waterman is that I'd need to upload and download on Ch 1 to access the beginner terrain off of Ch 2. Thoughts from those with experience?

You have to download, but a ton of people do that. More of the issue is that the beginner chair is so painfully slow, and for a child, kind of difficult to load/unload. You'd probably go crazy riding that lift all day; it's really that slow.

I like Waterman's chair 2 for beginners, certainly better than the typical congested scene at a SoCal base area with crappy snow. Waterman's chair 2 was Adam's first day off the leash shortly after his 4th birthday. The other good beginner area like that is the Discovery chair at the top of Mt. High East.
