A quick question about Aspen

In march I'm going to Aspen for 2 days with my friend. We've talked about it, and decided we are definitely hitting Highlands one of the days. My question is whether or not we should spend the other day at Aspen Mountain or on Snowmass. I should let you know that I will be coming from a week in Summit County so I'm not overly concerned with quantity of terrain, but mainly quality. Any suggestions?

Snowmass.... Cirque, Hanging Valley, Burn...

I've never been a big fan of Ajax itself. It skis like a cross between Whiteface and Holiday Valley. Very tall and narrow with lots of vert (the Whiteface part), but much of it has short (but steep) ridgeline drops into skier choked gullies and groomers (the HV style part).

Agreed on all counts.

I agree also for Snowmass, but it's a subjective opinion. More "western" in feel with some wide open slopes and a few interesting steeps. You won't get a lot of the latter like LCC because there are long runouts and multiple lifts to return to the good stuff. If you want more direct fall line skiing (steeper groomers) and particularly if you like moguls, then go for Ajax.

Glad to hear you're doing the week in Summit County first. Presumably you'll be acclimated for Highlands Bowl. I may be on a similar itinerary in early April.

Given rfarren's previous comments about thinking Steamboat was too flat, I should have figured out that he would not be impressed with most of Snowmass and likely to prefer Ajax. Also, with the moguls Ajax should definitely be on joegm's short list.
