Ok, that was worth the drive! Yes, it's only 22 miles to the West Village, but it was worth it. We received 14" since I penned my last report 24 hours ago. We got three times the snow forecasted by NOAA for the day, and they're pretty dang accurate for this location. I rode from 2PM until they close at 4. Should be good in the morning...

Hi,

Looks good. How worried are you about rain later in the week? The NOAA forecast I got is at 6001'.

Thanks,

Doug

It looks like a wet week for us. But the storms don't look super warm so rain mixes in with snow at the base but it's all snow just up the hill. It's a pisser, but we're off to a great start nontheless.
I think the very warm ocean temperatures in the Eastern Pacific (ENSO) off our coast will make this pattern somewhat common this winter I'm afraid.

You're way ahead of everywhere else in the PNW with this weather. Maybe another round of concrete snow will stick on the Summit offloading area.

I went again today, we got two inches overnight before it turned back into rain. I put in at 10:30, there was a cloud deck (no rain) on the upper third of Pine Martin that lifted as I rode. The snow surface was a wet powder, rain pack combo that was quick not sticky. Pretty fun. Excellent coverage on the lower mountain, I can only guess it's better up high. Thank God for our relatively high altitude!

Since Summit's wind is at least as chronic as Mammoth's, perhaps some serious snow fencing to collect snow would be in order near the unloading area as on Mammoth's chair 22.

Perhaps. I think if management had a stronger will that lift would be open soon.

Comments from Conditions blog this AM:

"Our grooming, lift maintenance and mountain patrol teams have begun surveying and preparing the west side of the mountain. Their initial report is that Northwest lift needs quite a bit more snow before it can open, but Outback is pretty close to being ready. With just a little more snow, we can finish the necessary grooming and the construction of loading/unloading areas. We're optimistic that Outback might be able to open in about a week, assuming the weather doesn't throw us any curveballs."

NWX and Summit usually open when our snowpack is a solid 5-6 feet at mid mountain.
