My friend is on a travel assignment in Anchorage, AK until Spring 2007, possibly to summer, if they wish. I was wondering if anyone knows the driving from Anchorage to ski areas, how doable that is, etc.? It is not every year another professional colleague is in AK and invites you up to visit. Thanks, Carol

P.S. Why does this always say that I am a novice? I guess it refers to using this board. I have been skiing since I was a child! :) Pray Tell?

Alyeska is the only major lift service, but it's an easy half hour drive south from Anchorage to Girdwood. I will be making my first trip there March 22-27. This will include a couple of days with Chugach Powder Guides, weather permitting. Don't go much earlier than March due to limited daylight. There's lots of great scenery in the road accessible area from there out to Homer and/or Seward on the Kenai peninsula. We spent a couple of days in Girdwood and Seward in August 2001.
