Tom stayed in bed as he has some kind of flu. So it was just the three of us today.
I went with very low expectations as I bought the logic that all of the Salt Lake valley skiers would be at the hill with the most acreage open. Reality was a little different as it wasn’t that busy as far as skier numbers go. We would wait a minute or two on most occasions and the longest wait was 5 minutes just before noon at Collins. It’s the first time that I’ve seen the new Sunnyside lift. That upgrade certainly has relieved that bottleneck.
Supreme had a sign saying ‘experts only - no grooming’. The cover was really thin. We did one lap of that lift because we got enough ski base damage yesterday at Snowbird.
The groomers off Sugarloaf were almost unsafe as they were that busy. There was very little open off the main trails in that area which confined everyone to the pistes.
We spent most of our time on the Collins/Wildcat side. For some reason the cover off the groomers was much much better there. I have no idea why. So we spent most of our time at Ballroom, Harold’s, Tombstone, Punchbowl, Wildcat Face and Collins Face.
We were disappointed that Alf’s doesn’t do the free hot drink refill any longer.
As a person with no formal education the best parts of my reports are the pictures.
^
Who are they kidding? It hasn’t snowed in days.
^We’ve never skied with Santa before.
^Mineral Basin will need plenty more snow before it opens.
^The areas on lookers right of the hill were great fun and sans crowds.
All in all a really fun ski day. I think I’ll go solo to Solitude tomorrow to do some uphill for the first time while the family have a lazy Christmas morning.
